Healthy Aging
Move Well. Stay Strong. Maintain Your Independence.
Aging well is about more than simply staying active. Maintaining strength, balance, mobility and confidence in movement can play an important role in preserving independence and continuing to do the things you enjoy.
At EPIC Health & Movement, our Healthy Aging services take an individualized, evidence-informed approach. Rather than assuming every person needs the same exercises, we assess the factors that may be affecting your movement and function and build a program around what you need.
Balance, for example, isn’t just about leg strength or being able to stand on one foot. It relies on the brain integrating information from your vision, vestibular system, sensation and body position while your muscles and joints respond appropriately. Changes in any of these areas can affect stability, confidence and fall risk.
Our goal is to understand why you’re having difficulty and use that information to help you move better, stay active and maintain your independence.
GLA:D® Canada for Hip & Knee Osteoarthritis
For individuals living with hip or knee osteoarthritis, Dr. Saakshi offers the GLA:D® Canada program, an evidence-based education and exercise program designed specifically for people with osteoarthritis.
The program combines targeted exercise with education to help reduce pain, improve physical function and give participants practical strategies for managing osteoarthritis and staying active.
Whether you’re managing arthritis, noticing changes in your balance, concerned about falls, or simply want to be proactive about maintaining your physical abilities as you age, our Healthy Aging services are designed to help you keep moving with confidence.
Balance, Fall Risk & Neuro Assessment
Our Balance, Fall Risk & Neuro Assessment provides a comprehensive look at the different systems involved in balance and movement.
Using clinical testing alongside technology such as virtual reality, force plate assessment and neurological testing, Registered Kinesiologist Lindsay Branton and Dr. Dani assess areas such as balance, coordination, sensory integration, vision and eye movements, vestibular function, strength and your ability to maintain stability under increasingly challenging conditions.
This allows us to look beyond whether someone simply has “good” or “bad” balance and identify what may actually be contributing to the difficulty.
Based on your results, we can develop an individualized rehabilitation program that may include:
- Strength and mobility training
- Static and dynamic balance training
- Vestibular rehabilitation
- Oculomotor and visual exercises
- Coordination and reaction-time training
- Sensory integration and neurological exercises
- Walking and functional movement challenges
- Fall-prevention strategies
The goal is not simply to perform balance exercises. It’s to progressively train the specific systems you need to improve your confidence, function and independence in everyday life.
